Community Grants 2021

The CGAC Committee has hit the ground running in 2021!

OYC Community Grants: Don Sloma is managing the Third Annual OYC Community Grants

program. We have a total of $6,000 available, with grant sizes ranging from $500 - $2,000. The application deadline is March 1. Grants are for projects, events and activities that are aligned with OYC interests and values. Preference is for projects related to water, boating, or the aquatic environment. Secondarily, projects will be considered that will improve the social fabric of our community.

Please check out the application and eligibility requirements in the February Beachcomber. Once again, we are relying solely on you, the OYC membership, to get the word out to local non-profit organizations that may have eligible projects. Contact Don if you have questions, at

Port of Olympia Destination Waterfront Project: As a result of advocacy by OYC member and Port

Commissioner Joe Downing, OYC/CGAC has been given a seat on the Port’s Destination Waterfront Advisory Committee. Bob VanSchoorl, CGAC member and former 14-year Port Commissioner, volunteered and was selected by the CGAC to fill the seat. Rick Panowicz has volunteered to serve as an Advisory Committee alternate.

Bob will be communicating with the CGAC, BOT and OYC membership to solicit feedback on the

development options being considered for the Port Peninsula. He encourages OYC members to learn more about Destination Waterfront directly by participating in the next Public Outreach meeting on January 20 via Zoom and by taking the Public Survey which is due on January 21. Invitation to join our Committee: These are just a couple of examples of how our 10 members are

engaged in the CGAC mission of strengthening OYC’s connection to the broader community. We meet remotely the first Tuesday of the month, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Contact me at if you have an interest in joining us.
